WRITING IPPs: INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT EVERY CLASSROOM
Facilitator: Lyndsay Fleming
This session will discuss the basics of writing an IPP, goal creation and the review process. In the second half of this session we will discuss environmental, assessment and instructional accommodations, strategies for struggling learners and accommodations for students with impulse control issues.

TRADITIONAL PROTOCOL IN TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Learning to see through the eyes of the children into their world, to enhance a positive learning environment.
The workshop is designed to help you understand traditional protocols and their benefits in the classroom. By the use of legends and ancestral knowledge this practice was passed on to the children and is still practiced today in some communities. Success is created for individuals by the use of these tools. The topics that will be covered are as follows:
How to approach Elders, Knowledge Keepers within the communities to gain access to their wealth of knowledge. Understanding the children and their environment through their eyes. Learning how land based teachings are connected to mathematics, science, social studies and biology, through the use of traditional practices within the classroom.
Basic teachings on the Traditional Protocols in communities and networking.

ROBOTICS INTRODUCTION
Facilitator: Paul Neethling
Technology for all grades. This session will focus on using ROBOTICS to enhance virtually all learning outcomes. We will be specifically discussing Albert Education Curriculum links for all Grades from K to 12 and illustrating how robots can be used as way of engaging student interest. We will explore several aspects such as overcoming teacher apprehension. No prior knowledge of robotics is required.
The ROBOTICS used in this session is called LEGO MINDSTORMS.

ROBOTICS ADVANCED
Facilitator: Paul Neethling
Example robots will be demonstrated and discussed. Robots to assist teaching literacy, numeracy, science, music, Cree Culture, etc. A robot capable of competing in a “SUMO” and “LINE FOLLOWER” tournament will be demonstrated and discussed. No prior robotics knowledge is required but is recommended.

EARLY LITERACY WORKSTATIONS
Facilitator: Gladys Cardinal
The focus is literacy work stations for Kindergarten to Grade 2 teachers. We will review some new information on Work stations and we will also discuss 5 workstation ideas and what to do at each one. The stations will be: The Alphabet Centre, The High Frequency Word Centre, The Phonological Awareness Centre, The Reading Centre and the Writing Centre.

80 in 80 is a high energy session that provides 80 strategies to help the educator connect with, manage, and meet students exactly where they are. This dynamic session provides creative resources and ideas to help connect with students, parents/guardians and even school personnel. Connecting strategies may be in the form of clever classroom management ideas, Thank you gift ideas for volunteers, iPad apps suggestions and so much more. The goal of this session is to find ONE that the educator can apply to make their teaching life a little easier and their students a little happier. Resources are provided at completion of the session.

The work of implementing effective assessment in our schools is ongoing. Whether your focus is project-based learning, inclusive education, differentiated instruction, or embedded technology, there is always an assessment dimension to consider. Assessment has the power to inform the learning decisions teachers and students make in the classroom every day, and it is a key component in supporting student success.Participants will explore Alberta learner outcomes through the lens of assessment, considering the process of planning for assessment with the end in mind, and embedding formative assessment opportunities into daily lessons. School-based leaders (and learning coaches) will examine possible frameworks for supporting enhanced assessment capacity with their schools.

SUICIDE PREVENTION

The 90 minute session I will be delivering will utilize some of the suicide prevention concepts that come from the training opportunities that I provide. We will learn what signs to watch for and how to support youth through a mental health crisis. We will also learn about the importance of self-care.

Having accurate student information will decrease the number of PASI conflicts and will make the end of year process run smoother.

FASD SNAPSHOT

This session introduces the topic of FASD, a history and general overview of the diagnosis, it’s implications over a lifetime, and supports available in the region and the province.

FASD ACCOMMODATIONS AND STRATEGIES FOR THE CLASSROOM
Facilitator: Wanda Belland
This session reviews the impact of alcohol on the brain and identifies the connection of the behaviours observed in various settings to the brain damage caused by pre natal alcohol exposure. This session explores the importance of recognizing brain differences to create accommodation and support for individuals impacted with FASD.

ENGAGING STUDENTS WITH TECHNOLOGY

This presentation is intended to demonstrate strategies for engaging students using a variety of resources that are tech-based. Not only are SmartBoards an important medium, but there are ways of engaging students with tools like Project Gutenburg, Audiobooks, Facebook, and much more. Creating collaborative and cross-curricular lessons, Kyle and Cass are Grade 7-12 teachers that have worked on engaging students on a variety of topics with a range learning needs and styles. Kyle teaches Social Studies, Aboriginal Studies, and CTS, while Cass is an English and French teacher, as well as CTS.
