We are currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Health Care Aide/ Homemaker. Under the functional supervision of the KTC Community Home Care Nurse/Coordinator, and the direct authority of Woodland Cree Health Services the Health Care Aide will provide a variety of health care services specific to community priorities.
The ideal candidate for this position will be self-directed, motivated, and sensitive to the needs of the clients they encounter. The primary role of the Health Care Aide is to help clients meet their individual needs in a way that maintains or restores their independence to their optimum as assessed and determined by the Home Care Nurse.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Delivery of safety procedures including but not limited to basic operation/understanding ofequipment – wheel chairs, stretchers, etc; assisting with maintaining safe environments forclients including reporting/ recommendations; lift and transfer methods including mechanicaland manual techniques.
•Assistance with Activities of daily living with encouragement of independence such as thetub/shower/ bed baths as required, basic hand/foot care, etc.
•Encouragement of clients active participation in exercise and recreational therapy
•Gathering base line data
•Identification of appropriate nutritional requirements for clients
•Administration of specific medications and treatments outlined by a care plan
•Assist with the care of special needs of the clients over their life cycle
•Provision of palliative care as required/requested
•Assist and support families who are providing care to their family members
•Provision of palliative care as required
•Other duties as outlined in job description
•Homemaking duties include general sweeping, mopping, and others as required and assessedby the Home Care Nurse/ Coordinator and following policy for services.
•Follow all health and safety regulations especially concerning Infection Control Procedures
•Complete charting and electronic reporting

Qualifications:

•Health Care Aide (H.C.A.) Certification from accredited institute
•Excellent and effective decision making skills, oral and written skills, interpersonal skills,organizational skills, teaching skills
•Ability to work independently and as a part of a team with other care providers.
•Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Cree culture, organizations and communities-the ability to speak/understand Cree is an asset.
•Current CPR/ First Aid Certification
•Must have basic computer skills
•Must have a valid driver’s license & access to reliable transportation
•Must be willing to take the training as necessary
•Must be willing to provide a RCMP Police Information check, a Vulnerable Persons recordcheck/ Child Welfare Record Check.
